Housing Choice Voucher

The Housing Choice Voucher program is the Federal Government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, the disabled, and the handicapped to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market.  Through the HCV program, participants are able to find their own housing, including single family homes, townhouses, apartments, and mobile homes.

Under the HCV program, participants are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects/communities.  To be eligible for the HCV program, the family must meet all the eligibility requirements.  

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must qualify as a "family"
  • Applicant must be within the appropriate Income Limits
  • Applicant must furnish Social Security Numbers for all family members age 6 or older
  • Applicant must furnish declaration of Citizenship or Eligible Immigrant Status and Verification, where required 

The Washington Housing Authority is currently providing assistance to 370 families through the HCV program.
